Voice of the Game

SOCCERTOWN MEDIA is proud to announce the release of VOICE OF THE GAME to the public today on our new website, www.soccertownmedia.com.

A tribute to (and master class with) Manfred “Manny” Schellscheidt, one of the most influential coaches in United States soccer history, the film has been featured in various film festivals, winning prizes at the New Jersey International Film Festival as well as the Sports, Fitness & Recreation Film Festival.

Manny has coached at all levels of the game, from college to pro to the U.S. Men’s National Team, and his “coaching tree” includes Bruce Arena, Gregg Berhalter, Bob Bradley, Jesse Marsch, and Tab Ramos—all of whom appear in VOICE OF THE GAME. Manny’s voice inspires, on and off the field.

The film project, which started during the global pandemic, was funded through the generosity of individual donors and featured the work of the SOCCERTOWN MEDIA team, which included Jim Barlow (producer), Lyman Dally (art); Larry Geraghty (editor), Chris Martinovic (producer), Tom McCabe (writer/producer/co-director), Kirk Rudell (writer/producer/co-director), Peter Rydberg (sound engineer), and Patrick White (composer).

In addition to the festival screenings, VOTG had a premiere in Asbury Park, N.J. in 2022 and has been used by youth soccer clubs around the country—including Red Bull Academy—in their training curriculum. The film gives every young player a chance to be “coached” by a legend.

Founded in 2019 by former college teammates, SOCCERTOWN MEDIA is an independent production company telling soccer stories via film, print, and podcast. The award-winning team has written and produced SOCCERTOWN, USA (2019) and VOICE OF THE GAME (2022).
